What is the International Day of Peace? |
|
The International Day of Peace is observed around the world each year on 21 September. The United Nations General Assembly made it a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace among all nations and peoples.
The International Day of Peace marks not only a time to discuss how to promote and maintain peace among all people but also a 24-hour period of global ceasefire and non-violence for groups in active combat zones.
The theme for the International Day of Peace 2022 is:
End Racism. Build Peace.

Here are suggested activities you can do to celebrate the International Day of Peace in your community:
- Hold a petition drive, gathering signatures to make human rights education mandatory in your zone;
- Hold a Human Rights awareness walks in your community, with some friend and like-minded organization;
- Visit a school or community center and give a lecture using the human rights educational materials;
- Take our free online course at humanrights.com/course or youthforhumanrights.org/course and share the links with your friends, colleagues, and everyone you know;
- And, if you are a teacher, have a special classroom activity for the International Day of Peace such as showing the 30 Rights: 30 Ads Public Service Announcements or The Story of Human Rights, doing a petition drive in your school, or a march.
The best and most creative International Day of Peace events will receive a special item from our offices when we receive your report and photos/videos.
There are only 8 DAYS until the International Day of Peace celebration, so register your event or activity now!
